Syl Confirms The Exependables 2 will be PG-13

January 19, 2012

On Wednesday, the rumor mill went crazy when action star Chuck Norris declared the script for "The Expendables 2" too vulgar, and was upset by the idea that "many young people" would miss out. "I said I won't be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased," he told the Polish paper Gazeta, (via First Showing). "Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be rated PG-13."

Sylvester Stallone has confirmed that the second part of this epic blood battle will indeed receive a wholesome rating, but promises stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, Liam Hemsworth, Arnold Schwarzenegger and more will deliver.

"The film is fantastic with Van Damme turning in an inspired performance... Our final battle is one for the ages," Stallone told Aint it Cool. "The PG-13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand Scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry... Sly."

The young people can catch "The Expendables 2" in theaters on August 17.

Liam Hemsworth talking about EX2 for MTV.com

January 13, 2012

"I just shot 'Expendables 2' ... That's another film that I want to go see. It will be weird that I'm in it."

Hemsworth admitted that he was a bit starstruck on the set of "Expendables 2," given that the cast is chock-full of Hollywood's most celebrated action stars.

"I grew up watching these guys and their movies, and then all of a sudden you have to pinch yourself when you're on set. You're looking at Stallone, Statham, Couture, Terry Crews, Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren" he said. "It's silly, it really is.

"You couldn't ask for a bunch of better guys than them," Hemsworth added. "They're so professional, good guys, so welcoming. That can be such a daunting thing for an actor to come on set with those guys, and they honestly couldn't have been nicer. They're just amazing."

Meet the Female Expendable & Filming moving to Hong Kong

January 13, 2012

While the only female presence in The Expendables were damsel in distress, the sequel Expendables 2 will introduce a new female member to join the mercenary team. Chinese actress Yu Nan who appeared in The Wachowskis' Speed Racer and Wind Blast will play this role under the name Maggie. Not much else is known about her character as of yet but I'm speculating that she is just as capable as the guys on the battlegrounds, not just a helpless bystander.

In other related news, various Chinese language news sources are reporting that the production crew were unable to obtain the necessary permits to shoot in China so the shooting location has evidently been switched to Hong Kong.

Tennis player Novak Djokovic gets cameo in Expendables 2

November 30, 2011

On the list of "manly" sports, tennis doesn't really rank towards the top of the list. Sure, the athletes in the sport are some of the most physically capable in the world (do you have the strength to hit a serve 155 mph?) but are still placed behind the men who professionally play football, basketball, hockey and baseball. But how many active players in those sports have a role in a movie alongside Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, and every other major action star from the last 30 years?

Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis player who has been ranked number 1 in the world since early July, apparently has a role in The Expendables 2, according to Deadline. If you're worried about about his ability to perform as another person, however, let me quell your fears: Djokovic will be playing himself (he's also known as quite the showman on the court, as well). He was invited to be in the film by producer Avi Lerner and is already in Bulgaria, where the movie is currently shooting.

Stuntman died in accident on Expendables 2 set

October 28, 2011

The accident took place in the Ognyanovo water reservoir in Southwestern Bulgaria and involved members of the movie's second unit. The first unit was in the resort town of Bansko at the time of the accident, or approximately 2.5 hours away from Ognyanovo.

"It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident," Nu Image/Millennium Films stated. "Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The  filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident," the production company also declared.

Two stuntmen were in a rubber boat when a planned bomb explosion went wrong around 7:00 pm local time on Thursday. One of them died on the spot while the second one was taken to the Tokuda hospital in Sofia and listed with severe trauma. No Bulgarians have been harmed by the accident.

First Look At Chuck Norris in Expendables 2

October 24, 2011

Even when the first Expendables movie was coming together people were questioning why Chuck Norris wasn't involved. While Norris hasn't actually been in a movie since 2005, his career has been kept alive by the internet, with the "Chuck Norris Facts" meme becoming insanely popular and staying that way for years.

Fortunately Sylvester Stallone has rectified his error from the first movie and has given a role to the action star in The Expendables 2. Now the first image of him has arrived online. In addition to Norris, the picture includes co-stars Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews.

Mickey Rourke Won't Return for Expendables 2

October 20, 2011

Back in May, a spoiler-filled synopsis of The Expendables 2 started making the rounds indicating that the plot will revolve around the murder of Tool, “the heart and soul of The Expendables” played by Mickey Rourke. Whether the movie, now directed by Simon West (The Mechanic) instead of the first film’s helmer, writer and star Sylvester Stallone, goes down that route or not, Deadline reports that Rourke will not be involved.

Or so it seems, as he’s in negotiations to work with In Bruges director Martin McDonagh’s next flick Seven Psychopaths. That production will be filming at the same time as Expendables 2 and would seemingly put Rourke out of the running. Of course, what would stop him from popping in for a quick death scene before heading back to the set of Seven Psychopaths, where he’ll star alongside Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell in a story about a screenwriter who gets drawn into his friends’ scheme to steal a mobster’s dog.

Shooting on The Expendables 2 is underway, and today we have an image from the set that might just be able to beat up any other set image ever taken. It’s that macho.

Schwarzenegger about Film Industry on Expendables 2 Set

October 12, 2011

Borisov and Schwarzenegger met Monday at the Nu Boyana Film Studios, where "The Expendables 2" is being shot. The meeting was also attended by Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov and Bulgarian football star Hristo Stoichkov.

"I am very happy to be in Bulgaria and that we have such good relations. Avi Lerner (producer and Nu Image/Millennium Films CEO - editor's note) has been making films all his life and he has great faith in this country. This is why we are here", Schwarzenegger said, expressing his satisfaction with the working conditions offered.

"Something long-forgotten has happened - film tickets get sold out, theater-goers have to wait for 2-3 months to be able to see a performance. A very good generation of Bulgarian actors is growing up, Bulgarian TV series are experiencing a revival, and your presence here helps to draw even more attention to Bulgarian cinema", Borisov stated.

Borisov explained that, by sharing their impressions of Bulgaria, celebrities like Schwarzenegger and his colleagues altered foreign stereotypes of the country and brought it new fame.

In the course of the talks, Schwarzenegger showed interest in visiting the excavation works for the construction of an underground history museum in downtown Sofia displaying the city's ancient and medieval history.

October 2, 2011

The US movie star, Sylvester Stallone, arrived in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on Thursday for the shooting of the much anticipated sequel to "The Expendables", whose driver the action movie legend is believed to be.

The actor promised his Bulgarian fans that they will feel very proud because of what is going to happen in their country.

"The fight scenes in this movie will be much bigger and better than those in the first part. The scale of production is much larger, so it will get people in Bulgaria feel very proud. Stallone talks about who is on board

September 16, 2011

In a recent interview with EW, Stallone said that not only would Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger have meatier parts the second go-round, but that he’s also added Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme to the mix and, fingers crossed, we may even see Nicolas Cage and John Travolta getting in on the mayhem, too.

Prior to the first Expendables, we reported that Stallone had been rebuffed by Van Damme when he offered him a part in the all-star cast, which included Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, and a who’s who of other hulking he-men. But now the Muscles From Brussels is saddling up. “We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one,” says Stallone, who heads to Bulgaria at the end of this month to start shooting.

We’ve got Chuck Norris and I think Nic Cage” says Stallone. “We’re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them. We also need some new blood in there, a Navy Seal-type, because with the Expendables none of them have 20-20 vision anymore. They need some help, man.”

As for reports that Travolta may also join the expandable Expendables cast, Stallone says, “It’s possible. The one thing I’ve learned is what is a fact on Monday is a complete fallacy on Tuesday. A lot of it is scheduling. It’s not financial. It’s just that Bulgaria is definitely a jaunt. It’s a commitment, you know what I mean? Especially in the dead of winter.”

Hollywood Comes To Sofia

September 9, 2011

This month will see Bulgaria's capital city Sofia transformed, if only for a short time into one of the most star studded cities in the world.

Most of Hollywood's toughest actors are due to begin filming on The Expendables 2, a follow up to the blockbuster ‘The Expendables'. Sofia airport is expected to receive a heavy influx of fans of the cast.

Filming will begin on September 19 at the Nu Boyana Film Studios on the edge of Sofia city. The studios are set on a 75 acre former communist film set and has today became one of Europe's most prolific locations for movies around the world.

The film's producer, Israeli born Avi Lerner said that Bulgaria is the most least expensive country in Eastern Europe to film in, and it is both the costs and the fact that the movie will be set in a fictional Eastern European country that made Bulgaria the ideal choice for filming. Bulgaria is said to be as much as 30% cheaper than Western Europe and more than 50% cheaper than the U.S.A for making movies.

First official cast list and story by Millennium Films

September 3, 2011

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They're not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.

According to the official website of studio Millennium Films, these are the actors confirmed so far - Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Chuck Norris and Scott Adkins.

The movie will be shot in Bulgaria and China, and, according to Bulgarian studio Nu Boyana, that is also producing, will follow the Expendables confronting another team of mercenaries, led by Van Damme's character. Adkins will be one of his men. Norris will have a cameo, similar to Willis' and Schwarzenegger's in the first movie, whereas the two actors - especially Willis, who plays the corrupt CIA operative Mr. Church - will have bigger roles. Li, who apparently did not want to return to the role of Expendable Yin Yang, will only participate of the China filming, while most of the cast will also appear in Bulgaria.

Schwarzenegger's co-star on James Cameron's "True Lies", Tom Arnold, has also apparently received an offer to appear in the movie. Other actor from the original movie expected to return is Steve Austin, who played the hitman Don Paine, who died in the original movie. According to rumors, he'd play Paine's twin brother who wants revenge against Stallone's character.

Other actors rumored to be contenders for roles in the movie are Donnie Yen, Nicolas Cage, Christopher Lambert, Christian Slate, John Travolta, Tom Sizemore, Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, Carl Weathers, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Charlie Sheen, Lorenzo Lamas, Jeff Speakman, Olivier Gruner, Ryan Seacrest and Taylor Lautner. Actress Tamara Ecclestone has also been linked to the part, possibly in the role of Mickey Rourke's character's daughter, named Fiona.

According to Stallone, the movie will be "a love letter to martial arts movies" and explore more the other members of the team. He also confirmed a fight scene between Lundgren and Van Damme.

The Expendables 2 wish list is getting bigger

September 1, 2011

The most understandable of the choices is Nicolas Cage - the biggest name, and certainly no stranger to the death-defying theme. The young Taylor Lautner is a more interesting grab, although his upcoming Abduction might solidify him as an action-thriller hero-to-be.

Christian Slater has had perhaps the least actiony resume, but is the kind of star you're not too surprised to be sought (and reached) for a recognizeability-based role. And finally, Christopher Lambert, who has had more than his share of fisticuffs and arms-battles.

Donnie Yen offered a Role in The Expendables 2

August 23, 2011

If you aren't familiar with Donnie Yen, you may remember him from films like Blade II and Shanghai Knights a few years back. However, it is more likely that if you are a fan martial arts films that you would know him more from his IP Man films.

If not, let's just say that Yen will fit right in with the rest of the cast of The Expendables. While he has yet to accept the as of now unspecified role, if he were to accept, his role is is described as being "tailor made" for Yen.

Now that could mean anything of course, but hopefully that turns into a fight partner for Jet Li. Sadly however, it's being said that Jet Li may not be returning and Yen is being eyed as a replacement. Personally, I hope the producers behind this film find a way to get both actors in the film. The thought of fight scenes between the two is ridiculous and if Donnie Yen decides to accept the role, their scenes together would immediately be among the most anticipated in the entire film.

Chuck Norris in Expendables 2 movie.....HELL YEAH

July 30, 2011

John Travolta and Chuck Norris are said to be joining the cast of The Expendables 2. David Varod, the head of the Bulgaria-based NU Boyana studios - where the movie will shoot - claimed that the two actors will be starring in the follow-up to last year's ensemble action film.

When asked what stars would be heading to Bulgaria, Varod told Novinite: "Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, John Travolta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke... who else? Of course, Bruce Willis.

"The director is Simon West, who is also a name. He is already here and has started working on the film. I believe the sequel will be better than the first movie." However, Jet Li, who appeared in the original film, is notably missing from Varod's list.

Varod also revealed that the film will begin shooting in September. "The shooting is going to take place in the second week of September," Varod said. "The movie is on, definitely."

Con Air director will take the reins of the Expendables 2 movie

June 15, 2011

Luckily, the guy who directed the ensemble action flick Con Air, Simon West, was available to take the gig. Since Con Air, West has directed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, The Mechanic and others, and was even an executive producer on Black Hawk Down, so he's well familiar with blowing shit up.

Production on the sequel begins this summer, but Stallone has already been talking up the involvement of a slew of other stars, including: Bruce Willis, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Hulk Hogan, Mr. T., Carl Weathers, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Charlie Sheen, Chuck Norris, Lorenzo Lamas, Jeff Speakman, Olivier Gruner, Steven Seagal and Ryan Seacrest.

Expendables 2 Promo Poster & Fake Synopsis

May 14, 2011

There was also an supposedly-official synopsis doing the rounds and let you know that an Expendable dies and his daughter must be recruited. Also, surprise, there’s a ruthless dictator involved. Like the poster, this synopsis may have been written by that same lazy intern, as Sylvester Stallone has reported to the StalloneZone that it is not correct and the real storyline will be forthcoming.

The hot rumors also suggest Jean-Claude Van Damme will be onboard. At least according to Van Damme best bud Sheldon Lettich, who used to direct JCVD in films like “Lionheart” and “The Order” but now updates fans on VanDammeFan.net (registration required!). Van Damme was previously training to get back in the ring, but Lettich gives us the hint that the fight’s been canceled, possible to focus on a role Lettich describes as a “villain.” He may have spoke too soon, as Van Damme’s agent claims, “Sheldon misled you unfortunately; I do not even have an offer for JCVD to do Expendables 2.”

Jean Claude Van Damme as a Villain

May 7, 2011

Its being reported this afternoon that Jean-Claude Van Damme has been confirmed as one of the main villains in The Expendables 2 movie.

Sylvester Stallone has long toyed with having Jean-Claude Van Damme come aboard for this follow-up to the extremely popular action ensemble, often poking fun at the Muscles from Brussels on his personal Twitter account for not being man enough to take on what will surely be an intense shoot. The news of Jean-Claude Van Damme coming aboard didn't stem from there, though, as Sylvester Stallone has been suspiciously absent on the social networkingsite since January 29th.

This news actually came from Jean-Claude Van Damme's longtime collaborator, Sheldon Lettich, the writer-director behind Double Impact and Lionheart, who was advised by Van Damme himself that he would be playing a villain, presumably against Bruce Willis, who has long been set to play the main villain in the movie.

Stallone not behind camera in Expendables 2 movie

March 9, 2011

The follow-up movie is a priority at producer Millennium Films, where it's being developed by  Stallone, the creative force behind the original. But Stallone, who both starred in and directed the 2010 summer hit, isn't, at the moment, planning on helming the new movie. Instead, he's been meeting with directors to tackle the sequel, said a person who was briefed on the project but was not authorized to speak about it publicly.

The script for the new movie has been written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman, the latter of whom counts the Clint Eastwood adventure "Space Cowboys" and family comedy "Curious George" among his credits, said the source. (Stallone co-wrote the script for the original with David Callaham.)

Stallone working on Expendables 2

January 29, 2011

Sylvester Stallone has revealed that he is working on Expendables 2.

Stallone directed as well as starred in last summer’s hit movie which brought together an impressive cast of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Bruce Willis.

Since the movie topped the box office there has been talk of a sequel and Stallone revealed that he is currently working on a second film and trying to find a balanced story.

Speaking on CNN Stallone said: "We're at work on it.

"Because you have about five different scenarios, and you try to figure out which one will work the best: what area, the kind of stunts, and most important, what is the heart of the film?

"What is the reason for the mission instead of just guys running around? Some purpose, that's the hard part."

Stallone's custom built Expendables F-100 sold.

January 26, 2011

This weekend in Arizona, at a celebrity Barrett-Jackson car auction, the custom built '55 F100 that Sly drives in the film sold for a whopping $132,000, well worth it if you ask me.

This wasn't the only celebrity vehicle to be sold at the auction, Evel Knievel's famous truck was sold, a few cars once owned by Bret Michaels, Elvis Presley, and Alice Cooper's custom Camaro, were all up for auction as well.

Here's some background on the truck for those who don't know.

It's a 1956 Ford F-100 fully customized into a 1955 by the very talented crew over at West Coast Customs, it has a brand new 347 Edelbrock engine, B&M transmission.

Brand new Lexani 20" rims with low profile tires.

Full Gibson exhaust system.

Some of the more interesting additions would be the two secret compartments housing movie weapon props, one under the the center of the dash, which holds a .45 prop pistol, and one at the back of the center console that hides an MP9 submachine gun prop.

The CEO of West Coast Customs said this this about the truck.
"Stallone needed three '55 F-100's, but they're so rare that we couldn't find them in time," added Friedlinghaus. "So we started with three pretty sad 1956 models and worked 24-7 to make them look like a custom '55. "

Steven Seagal and Chuck Norris Wanted

December 21, 2010

80s action legend Chuck Norris is on a “wish list” for the sequel to The Expendables according to one of the film’s stars.

Dolph told Upbeat Productions:

Chuck Norris is on my wish list. He’d be great as a General or something like that.

I’m not privy to who didn’t sign for the first one and for what reason and all of that because Stallone was the one who hired people but Jean Claude (Van Damme), who I have worked with before and is a nice guy, was asked and (Steven) Seagal didn’t want to do it but maybe he’ll be in the sequel.

The action star’s also told Upbeat that The Expendables is one of the few films he’s made that he feels naturally deserves a sequel. Dolph explained,

The Expendables lends itself to a sequel or sequels very nicely. Back in the 80s when I did action movies like The Punisher and all that they didn’t lend themselves to sequels very well.

He added jokingly,

The Expendables is now a trademark, a franchise and so the best thing about doing a sequel is that now I can ask for more money!

Dolph Lundgren Answers Your Questions!

November 21, 2010

On Friday, I (Alex) had the chance to speak to Dolph Lundgren (The Punisher, Rocky 4, Universal Soldier) in an exclusive interview about "The Expendables" (in stores on DVD and Blu-ray on November 23rd), and asked him the many questions WP users had for him. Read the Q&A below, which includes questions about whether he would be able to beat up Jet Li in real life and who he would like to see brought on for "The Expendables 2."

MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD:

How did you find out about "The Expendables"?

What happened was Stallone called me out of the blue and just said (in Stallone's voice) 'Hey Dolph, you know. Here's a script, you know. Ay yo, check it out.' So I checked it out and then I checked out the character he told me to look at, Gunner Jensen, the crazy Swedish psycho who drinks too much and kills people. And I thought 'Ok,' I understand why he called me, I can do this. And that's what happened.

Did Stallone send you a finished script or just an outline?

It was a finished script and I think at the time he had Jason Statham signed and Jet Li was about to be signed. So it was kind of early.

When was the last time you spoke to Stallone before that?

It was probably a couple of years before that. We ran into each other a couple of times here in LA for dinner or a drink. And we were just talking about the old times. And I didn't know he was working on 'The Expendables.' I had seen him at the 'Rocky Balboa' premiere, which I guess was two years before that. But now we're closer and I just saw him yesterday.

Did he ask you to do anything to play Gunner, maybe drink more?
